The
inspection took place on the afternoons of Tuesday and Thursday, September 18 and 20, 2012.
The weather on both days was clear, with the exception of a smoky haze, and temperatures
reached the upper 70's. The fall colors were beautiful, and ground conditions were extremely
dry.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE -Rule 4.05
Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5, 4.05.6; Discharge Structures
4.05.7, 4.05.10; Diversions 4.05.4; Effluent Limits 4.05.2; Ground Water Monitoring 4.05.13;
Surface Water Monitoring 4.05.13; Drainage—Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8; Impoundments
4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18:
Pond 012 Watershed
• Pond 012 was discharging at the time of the inspection. The outlet structure was clear of
debris, and the slopes were stabilized with good vegetative cover(Photo 1). Mr. James said
that SCC would be cleaning sediment from the pond later this fall. An excavator will be
used, and will muck out all of the sediment it can reach from the pond bank. The excavator
is unable to reach to the center of the pond, so an island of sediment, which is already
covered with vegetation, will remain.
• The water level in Pond 012A was not high enough for discharge to be occurring. The water
was opaque brown in color, and there appeared to be a fraction of suspended solids. The
trash rack for the primary spillway was cleared of debris. The majority of the pond inslopes
were well vegetated and stable; on the eastern bank, however, a number of rills were visible
(Photo 2).
• Pond 012A receives flow from two channels: YPM-6-2 and YPM-5-1. A delta of deposited
sediment was visible at the terminus of YPM-6-2. Upstream of Pond 012A, there was
evidence that this channel had experienced some erosion earlier in the season (Photo 3); the
TRM channel lining was torn in places, and absent in others.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 4
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1 Page 2 of 8
