Posey, District
Ranger, Paonia Ranger District, regarding Mid Continent Coal establishing a
ventilation portal on the nortwest side of Huntsman Ridge.
I have suggested a meeting be scheduled so that Mid Continent, the Forest
Service, and all ranchers and interested persons in the area could discuss
the portal site, problems, and possible complications. My primary concern
would be relevant to noise and gas pollution of the area. From perusing the
map it appears that Mr. Olson's, Mr. Clinger's, Mr. Sperry's and Mr. Clathis's
ranches will be impacted the most.
Rather than ask for a recitation of DB levels, gas levels, other construction
noise and environmental questions, I felt that a meeting for an open discussion
of these facts would be in order. I have been notified that a meeting is being
planned in the near future.
Sincerely,
De F. Hartshorn
DFH/lk
