1 , 800 feet of rock tunnel will be driven through interbedded <br /> shales and sandstones of the Mesaverde Formation to the connection <br /> with No . 2 mine. Approximately the last 700 feet of this section <br /> will be in the massive sandstone underlying the No . 2 mine. <br /> The principal equipment that is being used to <br /> construct the rock tunnel are: <br /> Dual boom drill jumbo <br /> Paurat E-134 road head borer <br /> Load-haul dump unit, diesel-powered <br /> Diesel haulage trucks <br /> Feeder-breaker <br /> Belt conveyor <br /> Main ventilating fan, 4-foot diameter <br /> Auxiliary ventilating fan, underground <br /> High explosives are being used to break the <br /> rock at the face underground . All surface blasting associated <br /> with the project has been completed . Crosscuts (connections <br /> between the parallel bores) for ventilation and for haulage are <br /> being driven at intervals of not more than 500 feet. <br /> A permanent mine office/lamp house/change <br /> room will be constructed at some future date at the entrance to <br /> the tunnel portals . The coal transported to the surface through <br /> the rock tunnel will be placed on a new overland conveyor system <br /> and transported to open coal storage piles. Coal will be reclaimed <br /> from the storage piles and sent to the preparation plant by draw <br /> points and conveyor belts . It is anticipated that the capacity <br />
