COMMENTS
This was a complete inspection of the Hawk's Nest Mine conducted by Jim Stark of the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining and Safety. The permit for the mine has been revoked and the bond has been forfeited. The
reclamation work was completed by the Division. The Division completed the first year of vegetation sampling in
June and will complete the second year of vegetation sampling next year. The weather was warm and sunny and
the ground was mostly dry.

4.14.3; Stabilization of Rills and Gullies 4.14.6:
-The regraded East Mine,West Mine and Bleeder Entries areas all remained stable at the time of the inspection.
There were no erosional issues noted at any of the three reclaimed sites. The guest house area is currently being
used as a private residence.
OTHER(SPECIFY):
-As noted in previous inspection reports,the Ragged Mountain Fire Protection District purchased the East Mine
property,with the plan to build a new fire station on the site. According to Jim Kiger of Oxbow Mining (an
adjacent property owner and Paonia resident),the project has been put on hold due to funding issues. The holes
that were dug to perform infiltration tests for a septic system have all been filled in. The Division conducted year
nine vegetation sampling on the East Mine during June of this year and they will conduct year ten monitoring next
year. Regardless of the plans for this site,the Division will progress towards final termination of jurisdiction of
the site next year(2013).
RECLAMATION SUCCESS -Rule 4.15, Rule 3:
- Overall the reclamation at the Hawk's nest mine is doing well. There is enough vegetative cover to control
erosion on the site and an OSM special focus inspection at the site in June 2012 confirmed that there are no off-
site impacts due to the reclamation. The Division is progressing towards a final termination of jurisdiction for this
site.
