The focus
of the inspection was reconstruction of drainages, namely the West Ridge drainage with check dams, the Moffat
Final Pit Ditch, and down drains near Moffat Pond.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE - Rule 4.05 ❑ Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.053; Siltation Structures 4.05.5,
4.05.6, Discharge Structures 4.05.7, 4.05.10; Diversions 4.05.4; Effluent Limits 4.05.2; Ground Water
Monitoring 4.05.13; Surface Water Monitoring 4.05.13; Drainage — Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8;
Impoundments 4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18:
The Moffat Final Pit Ditch and Moffat Down Drains 1, 2, 3, and 4 were inspected and found to be in good
shape. There was no significant erosion in the channels and they are well vegetated and stable. In Moffat Down
Drain 44 a small bank cut was observed and there is a short reach where flow has split into two distinct channels;
neither of these issues appears to be problematic.
One of the check dams in the West Ridge drainage was holding water (CD 12). The upper check dams are nearly
filled in with sediment. No significant problems were identified with the check dams, although minor bank
erosion was seen between CD5 and CD6, and in some locations the geo- fabric is exposed. At CD2, the spillway
has washed out and head cutting has occurred.
A gully was found east of where the West Ridge drainage crosses the West Ridge Road, near the top of the "String
of Pearls." This gully is the result of erosion in a roadside ditch, and it is approximately three feet deep and
approximately 200 yards long. There is no evidence that this gully has caused significant sediment loading into
the drainage below. Another, smaller gully was observed on the west side of the drainage along the old road.
The east side of Moffat Pond has seen significant use by sheep and the bank has been degraded.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 2
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 2 of 8
