Sincerely,
September 26, 2012
Mr. Eric Scott
Dear Mr. Scott,
attachment
Climax Mo/ybdenum
A Freeport - McMoRan Company
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St. Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Raymond Lazuk
Environmental Manager
Sent by Certified Mail
4- l - /I
Climax Mine
Highway 91 - Fremont Pass
Climax, CO 80429
Phone (719) 486 -7718
Fax (719) 486 -2251
4P 27 2012
„/,„ DIVISION OF RECLAMATION
` 1) MINING AND SAFETY
RE: Spoil/Muck Disposal Area Location Addendum to Technical Revision 21— Mayflower
Flood Bypass Tunnel and Mayflower TSF Reclaim Water System Modification
This letter and attachment (Drawing C -01) is an addendum to Technical Revision (TR) 21 —
Mayflower Flood Bypass Tunnel and Mayflower TSF Reclaim Water System Modification. As we
discussed over the phone last week, the addendum shows a new area to dispose of spoils /muck from
the Mayflower Bypass Tunnel construction. The original C -01 drawing in TR -21 had the main
spoil /muck disposal area along the west shore of Mayflower TSF in the general area of a riser pipe
that discharges to the Tenmile drainage as part of the Climax water treatment system. To prevent
potential water quality concerns with turbidity entering the riser pipe, Climax has added a new area
at the southeast corner of Mayflower TSF for the spoil /muck disposal. This new area is much farther
from the riser pipe and provides an additional safeguard to protect water quality. The new area
shown on revised C -01 also is larger than the actual area needed to place material. This gives
Climax flexibility for specific disposal areas based on ground conditions. The original disposal area
along the west shore of Mayflower TSF was kept because there may be some minor amount of
material placed there.
Please accept this letter and attachment as an addendum to TR -21 for your files, and please me call
with any questions. Climax also will maintain this information with our copies of TR -21.
