September 19, 2012 C- 1981 - 018 /Deserado Mine ZTT
The primary discharge pipe outlet of Pond D -1 needs to be dug out. The outlet was beneath water level so a
physical test was conducted and found that the pipe outlet is clogged with mud. Cat tails have grown around the
primary discharge pipe inlet and may need to be removed to allow proper drainage to the primary spillway.
The B Seam Mine Dewatering Pond system was operational during the time of the inspection and was pumping at
rate of roughly 25 gallons per minute. The two additional ponds and the new channels of the Artificial Wetlands
Area have been constructed. The water being pumped was mixed with coagulant within the pumping system to
help the settling process. Water had been discharged up to Pond #5 and no discharge into the ditches had occurred.
The Last Chance Pond held no water and no water has been discharged from the Last Chance Pond as of the date
of inspection.
HRB -2, HRB -3 and Explosive Storage SAES were inspected for proper sediment control measures. Each SAE is
surrounded by berms diverting runoff to constructed rock check dams. No maj or signs of erosion were present and
all check dams were stable.
Water Storage Tank, Radio Tower, RDH -2 and B -Vent Shaft 41 and 42 SAES were constructed with gravel pads
for sediment control measures. Each SAE were well graded with gravel and no major signs of erosion were
present.
Ten Left Vent Shaft pad needs some form of erosion and sediment control. Gullies from erosion have formed
along the pad's embankments.
Erosion on vent shaft pad
PROCESSING WASTE /COAL MINE WASTE PILES — Rule 4.10 and 4.11
Drainage Control; Surface Stabilization, Placement:
Refuse was being stockpiled for spreading and compacting along the edge of Refuse Pile 2/3/4.
