Pineda
Director
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34,
Article 33, Section 118, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on September 24,
2012, an application to renew an existing permit to conduct coal mining operations at the Bowie
No. 1 Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. All review and comment periods
as provided in the Colorado Surface Mining Reclamation Act and the Rules initiate from this date
of filing.
Bowie Resources, LLC proposes to continue Underground coal mining and /or reclamation
operations on land located approximately 3 miles North of Paonia, Colorado. The permit area is
further described as follows:
Three miles North of Paonia
The above - mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Bowie.
In Permit Renewal No. 6, Bowie Resources LLC is proposing to renew its permit at the Bowie No.
1 Mine for another five year term. Mining has ceased and reclamation activities are in progress.
No changes are proposed for the existing permit, permit boundary or disturbed surface area is
proposed as a result of this revision application. As a result, the Division does not anticipate
additional impacts to wildlife.
Because the above referenced technical revision application would incorporate additional lands
into the permit area or might otherwise alter previously approved permit conditions or mitigation
measures, we are coordinating with the Office of Surface Mining on evaluation of the potential for
impacts to threatened or endangered species of plants or animals, or wildlife species otherwise
protected by federal law.
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
