A number of organizations and agencies
volunteered to participate in the project as partners with the Division and Pitkin County.
The Office of Surface Mining volunteered to be a partner in the noxious weed control process at
Coal Basin. Your office committed to providing in-kind services as its contribution to the project.
In order to evaluate the success of the management effort, a number of reference areas are being
established prior to treatment of the infestation. We are planning on establishing and sampling the
reference areas on June 17, 1998. It is my understanding that Randy Pair and at least three other
individuals may be available to help with this effort on the 17th. I also understand the these
volunteers will be able to supply the appropriate equipment in order that consistent sampling
techniques are used throughout the project area.
