OSM's Regional
Directors and Acting Deputy Director met in late April to
consider all requests received nationwide for FY 1998.
Unfortunately, OSM has only a very limited amount of civil
penalty monies available this year, and very wet winter weather
in the East has created many emergency situations on bond
forfeiture sites there. It was decided that all of the limited
funds should be earmarked for use in abating those emergency
situations.
As discussed on the telephone today by Steve Renner and Randy
Pair of my staff, we will retain your application and will
resubmit it for the civil penalty program for the next fiscal
year.
If you have any questions on this matter, or if we can provide
any further assistance, please contact me at 303-844-1424, or
Randy Pair of my staff at 303-844-1446. We look forward to
continuing to work with you on this and other aspects of the Coal
Basin reclamation.
Sincerely,
j 6t/N'J, f-- i
James. F.
