Dear Mr. Sander:
The Division of Minerals and Geology would like to thank the National Arbor Day Foundation
for its donation of$7,500. This money will be used to purchase trees and supplies for planting.
The trees will be planted on public lands managed by the White River National Forest at the Coal
Basin Mine. Coal Basin is located four miles west of Redstone in western Pitkin County.
The Division of Minerals and Geology is in the process of accomplishing reclamation of this now
inactive coal mine. Tree planting is an important step in the reclamation process, and the
National Arbor Day Foundation grant will help in accomplishing our reclamation goals at this site.
In order that we may proceed with our bid preparation and purchasing procedures, we would like
to receive the funds by April 15, 1998. The easiest way for the Division to accept funds is by
check. The check should be made out to the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology. Please
attach a note on National Arbor Day letter head stating that the funds are meant as a donation
specifically for use in tree planting projects at the Coal Basin Mine. The check and note should be
addressed to:
