United States Forest Sopris 620 Main Street
Department of Service Ranger P.O.Box 309
Agriculture District Carbondale CO 81623
(970)963-2266
File Code: 1830
Date: March 21,1997
Mr. Kevin Rumery
Assistant Project Director
National Civilian Community Corps
Central Region
1058 S. Yosemite Street, Bldg. 738
Aurora, CO 80010
Dear Mr. Rumery:
The State of Colorado, Division of Minerals and Geology, has recently submitted to you a proposal
for your consideration, and is titled Coal Basin Watershed Improvement Prot.
I would like to offer to you my support of their proposal. The project is contained within the Sopris
Ranger District, White River National Forest, in the Coal Basin Watershed. This is an area that has
been disturbed in the past and the State is attempting to reclaim the site, while working with a bank-
rupt company. The ecosystem is in some need of treatment and the State has some funds directed to
this effort. The funds are not adequate to complete all enhancement activities and your support of
this proposal will greatly help the effort in Coal Basin.
The detailed information can be found in the project proposal from the State. But, I did want you to
know that as the responsible federal land manager, I fully support the effort of the State, and think it
beneficial for you to give their proposal a high degree of consideration.
Please don't hesitate to call me if you have questions regarding this project or if I can provide any-
thing else that will aid in your decision process. Thanks for your consideration of this project!
Sincerely,
KEVIN T.
