become well established on the cut slopes above the rip-rapped base and side slopes.
Vegetative cover varies from about 60% to over 80% at the cut slopes. However,
quantitative vegetative cover estimates are difficult to make because the areas affected by
the permit are very small, usually less than twenty feet in length at each site. Qualitative
visual observations indicate that a vegetative cover well in excess of 40% is present at
each location, and that the cover is adequate in extent to prevent erosion from occurring.
Termination Criteria
All termination criteria have been met at the Coal Basin Mine Pond Reclamation
Stormwater Permit area.
The work at the ponds was completed during the fall of 1999. The work was successful,
and no maintenance or other earth-disturbing activities have taken place since that time.
Vegetative cover is sufficient to prevent erosion from occurring at each excavated
embankment.
- None of the work at the ponds contacted or exposed raw materials, intermediate
products, byproducts, finished products or waste products associated with coal
mining activities. Therefore, removal or permanent isolation of any such products
was not necessary.
- All soil-disturbing activities have been completed. No further reclamation work
is planned or anticipated at any of the reclaimed areas.
- Vegetative cover within the individual areas covered by the permit exceeds 40%,
and is sufficient in extent to prevent erosion of the affected areas.
4
