September 11, 2012 C- 1981- 025/North Thompson Creek Mine JRS
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE (cont.) - Permanent pond P9 was basically full at the time of the inspection (due to
discharge from treatment pond P9). The pond embankment was well vegetated and stable and no erosional
problems were noted. There was no iron staining seen in pond P9 at the time of the inspection.
- It was unclear whether treatment pond T2 was discharging into the North Thompson Creek because it was
raining pretty hard and that portion of the site was not inspected. However, the flow from the portal discharges
into the Long Pond appeared to be the same as the flow into permanent pond P9 (at approximately 10 GPM).
- Pond P9 was basically full at the time of the inspection.
GENERAL MINE PLAN COMPLANCE:
- The North Thompson Creek Mine is a reclaimed mine. The remaining structures are permitted as perinanent to
support the approved post- mining land use as a developed water resource. The operations include mine
discharges, treatment ponds and storage ponds. The remaining structures and operations at the site are consistent
with those approved in the permit.
ROADS — Rule 4.03 Construction 4.03.1(3)/4.03.2(3) Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4) Surfacing and
Maintenance4.03.1(5) and (6)/4.03.2(5) and (6) Reclamation 4.03.1(7)/4.03.2(7):
- There is one remaining road to access the site and the ponds that has been permitted as permanent and released
from the Division's jurisdiction through a Phase III Bond Release. The road is stable and in good condition.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS - Rule 4.15, Rule 3:
- There is only 4.10 acres of disturbance remaining at the North Thompson Creek Mine. The remaining disturbed
area is well vegetated and stable and no erosional problems have been noted. The treatment and storage ponds
were all well vegetated and stable as well. Overall, the reclamation is at the North Thompson Creek Mine is very
good.
SIGNS AND MARKERS — Rule 4.02:
- The mine ID sign at the main gate was lying on the ground behind the gate at the time of the inspection. I picked
up the sign and placed it by the main support post for the gate. This sign needs to be replaced and installed in such
a maimer as it will be readily visible to anyone who approaches the gate.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED: None
This completes the North Thompson Creek Mine complete /OSM oversight inspection report for 11 September
2012.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 0
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 2
Page 3 of 10
