Hickenlooper
Governor
Mike King
Executive Director
Loretta E. Pineda
Director
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety has received a revision for the Bowie No. 2 Mine. The
revision was called complete on September 14, 2012. The decision due date is January 12, 2013.
This permit revision proposes to incorporate federal coal leases COC -61209 and COC -37210 into the
Bowie 2 permit. These lease modifications expand the mine plan to the north allowing for four addition
longwall panels to be mined. The longwall panels will be oriented east and west. The permitted area
will increase by 896.0 acres and the affected area will increase by 609.0 acres. The mineral ownership
in the lease modification areas is all federally owned. Surface ownership in the new lease area is 728.0
acres private land and 168.0 acres federal land. No surface disturbance is proposed with this revision.
This revision is available for review at the Paonia Public Library, 2 Third Avenue, Paonia, CO 81428.
If you have any questions, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Brock F.
