EARDON MINING INDUSTRY CONSULTANTS
TEFL LLC 18050 COUNTY ROAD G • CORTEZ. (CBCI), Reardon Steel LLC (RSL) is providing the Division
of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (DRMS) with this letter to respond to the adequacy review letter
dated August 30, 2012. Each paragraph of DRMS' letter that requested additional information is
included in this letter, followed by CBCI's response.
DRMS: To prepare the storage building site, the Graded Area #2 cap material will be stripped
and stockpiled against the toe of the hill. The map indicates that the stockpile will cover the
existing stormwater drainage conveyance ditch. Please describe how and where this
stormwater control structure will be re- located, if at all.
CBCI: The cap material will be stripped and stockpiled over a duration of 3 days or less. During that
time the stormwater ditch, which under normal conditions is dry, will be concealed by the stockpile.
Once the stockpiling is complete, a new ditch will be constructed having the same dimensions and
functionality as the current setting. The location of the new ditch will be routed around and at the toe
of the stockpile and then re- connected with the existing ditch on both sides of the stockpile. The
figure titled "Figure 2. Camp Bird Mine 14L Surface Map" of the original TR submittal has been
modified to display the re- routed stormwater ditch, and is included in this response letter as Figure 1.
DRMS: Graded Area #1 will be developed into a level area between stockpiles of stripped
surface material and the material excavated from the sediment pond. Please provide more
information about the configuration of the stockpiles, such as slopes and heights. A cross -
section diagram of the present and proposed surfaces there would be helpful (oriented at
approximately N15
CBCI: Figures 2, 3, and 4 depict a contour model and profile views through Graded Area #1 (GA1)
demonstrating the stockpile dimensions and slopes relative to the present surface profile. The
stockpile derived from the pond excavation (Stockpile 1) will be split into an east lobe and a west
lobe with a gently sloped area in between for conveyance of stormwater from GA 1 into the
sedimentation pond. All sides of each lobe will have slopes of approximately 2:1 (H:V) and will
average approximately 8 feet thick with a flattened crown. The stockpile derived from the grading of
GA1 (Stockpile 3) will be placed against the existing up- gradient slope above GA1. This stockpile
will have a maximum thickness of 15 feet and an average thickness of 5.5 feet above the existing
surface, and will have a finished slope of 2:1 (H:V).
