MASS BALANCE
CEC accepted 36,961 tons of mixed fly and bottom ash for disposal in 2011.
The ash was transported from the SUEZ Energy Generation NA, Inc.
(formerly Trigen Colorado Energy Corporation) facility (see Ash Disposal
Data) and placed in the south end of B -Pit. Approximately 9,563 bank
cubic yards' (BCY) of overburden material was taken from the Long Term
Spoil Area, and was used primarily to cover the ash disposal area, in
compliance with the local (Weld County) regulations for the operation of
solid waste disposal sites, specifically to control dust and fugitive debris in
the immediate area of B -Pit. No mine waste rock was delivered to the
Keenesburg site for disposal during the year, and only small amounts of
additional overburden material were used for reclamation in the southern
portion of B -Pit (specifically for the addition of six feet of cover material
over the final layer of ash) during the year. In 2011 almost the entire focus
of the reclamation activity was on ash disposal, ash cover, and on
continuing to maintain the quality of the revegetation activity.
Remaining B -Pit Airspace Volume 637,573 BCY
(to proposed final reclamation contours)
Remaining A -Pit Airspace Volume 0 BCY
(to proposed final reclamation contours)
[PIT IS CLOSED]
Long -term Spoil Remaining On Site 331,332 BCY
Topsand Stockpiled On Site 299,187 BCY
Stockpile A -1 69,911 BCY
Stockpile A -3 137,611 BCY
Stockpile B -1 91,665 BCY
AHR -2011 -107-
