Order of operations include stripping and grubbing vegetation from the surface, stockpiling soils <br />and completing interim reclamation seeding on them, conducting mining operations on that <br />segment, then stripping the next 10 -acre phase and using those soils to reclaim the segment <br />where mining was completed. In this way, it is expected that only 10 acres at a time will be <br />actively mined and only 10 -20 acres would be in an interim, semi - reclaimed stated at once, <br />which brings a total of no more than 30 acres of surface disturbance at any point in time during <br />pit operations. By the end of mining the Phase 2 site, 2/3 of the pit will have been reclaimed and <br />stabilized with uniform vegetative cover. After mining is completed, the originally - stockpiled <br />soils will be utilized to reclaim the final disturbed portion of the site and restore vegetative <br />productivity. Therefore the total area impacted in Phase 2 will be 115 acres, though no more <br />than 30 acres (about 1/3 of the Phase 2 location) would be disturbed at any one time. <br />Mitigation: No mitigation is necessary for geology. For soils, the following items should be <br />implemented: <br />❑ Segregation of topsoil from subsurface soils, and replacement during reclamation in their <br />respective original positions (last out, first in) would assist in re- establishment of soil <br />health and vegetative recovery. <br />❑ Limit clearing and vegetation removal as much as practical during pit operations. <br />❑ Soil stockpiles should be re- seeded as soon as possible for interim reclamation to retain <br />them onsite and prevent erosion losses during pit operations. <br />❑ Disturbed sites should be reclaimed as soon as feasible after mining has been completed. <br />Environmental Solutions, Inc.
