Fortunately, new invasions are much easier to detect on
freshly disturbed sites and it is far easier to exterminate recently pioneering infestations,
rather than extensive, well - established stands of invasive species.
Wetland areas are confined to locations adjacent to the White River and are entirely
riparian- associated. Since the proposed project is located on a clearly upland bench with
a significant buffer between the work area and the river, there will be no wetland areas
affected by Phase 2 operations.
Environmental Consequences of Proposed Action: Since pit construction will impact an
area of low- functioning, highly impacted rangeland dominated by a state - listed noxious
weed species, this project will have no practical impact to upland function or condition.
However, the project does offer the potential for future reclamation efforts that could
considerably improve upland site conditions.
During construction and pit operations, there is a possibility for the introduction and
establishment of additional noxious weed species. In order to prevent invasive species
establishment, the company will monitor for the following species known to occur in Rio
Blanco County during the course of construction work and pit operations on the site
(Table 4). Should any of these species be discovered, a variety of mechanical and
chemical solutions are available to eradicate the infestation immediately.
Table 4: Potential invasive noxious weeds of concern on the Phase 2 nropert v.
Environmental Solutions, Inc.
