Design and Operations Plan October 24, 2011
Western Gravel E & P Waste Disposal Facility Page 19 of 51
• Model 3: Assuming lateral flow through bedrock, 1.0 x 10 -6 cm/sec permeability, 5% porosity, and
an average slope of 0.001 foot per foot (ft/ft) for a distance of 9,700 feet; the earliest that fluids are
projected to reach the nearest permitted domestic water supply well is 0.46 million years. The
maximum estimated travel time is over 277 million years and the median travel time is 16 6 million
years.
Using an estimated facility life and closure of approximately 8.5 years, the range of distances that potential
contaminants could travel in bedrock is estimated from 0.1 to 40 feet. Based upon modeling results using
Darcy's Law for saturated flow, it is unlikely that the proposed landfill will impact groundwater or surface
water. Saturated flow estimates based upon Darcy's Law and input parameters used are provided in Appendix
F, Table 1.
NWCC, Inc.
