August 29, 2012 C- 1981 -038 /Bowie No. 1 Mine MPB
channel in this short segment to stabilize the area and control the flow during future runoff events.
I also inspected The West Mine area and the Stevens Creek crossing. The reclaimed slopes at the West Mine had
good vegetative cover and appeared stable with signs of erosion or slumps. The two sediment ponds at Roatcap
Creek at the bottom of the West Mine were dry. The ponds are well vegetated and the embankments are in good
condition. At Stevens Creek crossing the operator indicated that they would like to remove the silt fence located at
the bottom of the short steep valley below the road. There is silt fence installed on either side of a riprap channel
(see Photo No. 4). This appears to be an older channel with vegetation growing up through the base of the channel
between riprap. The silt fence is torn and knocked down in several spots and needs to be repaired. The vegetation
is somewhat sparse on the east side of the channel. An appropriate demonstration that the silt fencing is no longer
needed would be required in order for the operator to remove the silt fence.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED
None
OTHER (SPECIFY)
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 2
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 0
Page 3 of 6
