September 9, 2012
Michael Cunningham
Division of Mining, Reclamation and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
3. Soil.
RE: Destiny Mine permit number M- 2009 -o56, objection thereto
I am a homeowner residing within one mile of the above proposed gravel pit /open pit
mine and am filing an objection to this application.
Reasons for objection:
1. Elk habitat.
a. This is active elk, deer and coyote habitat 12 months of the year. Lights,
noise and human activity will have considerable negative impact on wild
life.
2. Water.
a. Homes in the area are required to have household wells if not on city
water. Commercial /mining water use violates the limitation restriction of
water use imposed on household wells. The potential to lower the water
table for private well owners who limited their water consumption is not
acceptable. It is dangerous and very unfair.
b. Potential pollution of ground water from discharge at the mining area
seeping into the water table is an unacceptable health hazard to humans
and other plant and animal life in the area.
a. What is the perk -rate on the proposed site? Will disturbance of the land
created flash flooding or extensive erosion? Will runoff water enter the
Middle Fork and create an undesirable environment for fish? The Middle
Fork of the South Platte is highly used fishing water.
