Background: <br />1998 ANNUAL UPDATE <br />(1997 MLR Report Year) <br />SUNNYSIDE MINE BULKHEADS <br />Area Inventory of Seeps, Springs and Flowing Adits <br />Sunnyside Gold Corporation(SGC) submitted a Technical Revision to <br />its MLR permit (TR -14) to provide technical details for tunnel <br />bulkheads designed to stop drainage to surface through the tunnels <br />from the Sunnyside Mine. The purpose being to eliminate flows <br />requiring water treatment to facilitate release from CDPS discharge <br />permits. Final reclamation of the Sunnyside Mine property, <br />according to the reclamation plan in the permit, would then be <br />possible. <br />As a condition of approval for TR -14, Sunnyside made four <br />commitments (Appendix B -1) to the Division of Minerals and Geology <br />(DMG)and the Mined Land Reclamation Board. This report section is <br />submitted to satisfy annual data and narrative reporting <br />requirements contained in these commitments. <br />TR - 14 Commitment Status: <br />SGC has satisfied all of the actions required by the MLR TR -14 <br />Commitments #1 - #4 other than ongoing monitoring and reporting <br />which is current. <br />Consent Decree Project Status: <br />During 1996, SGC entered into a voluntary Consent Decree agreement <br />with CDPHE to satisfy MLR TR -14 Commitment #1 and began <br />implementation of the commitments made in this agreement. These <br />commitments include stream monitoring, implementation of approved <br />work plans for listed Mine Remediation Projects, temporary <br />treatment of Cement Creek (up to the capacity of the water <br />treatment plant) to mitigate any increased loading that may occur <br />while implementing the Remediation Projects, and submittal of <br />monthly /quarterly progress reports. DMG is a recipient of the <br />progress reports so projects' details will not be included in this <br />report. <br />Implementation of the "A List" Remediation <br />Projects in the Consent Decree within a two year time period was <br />committed to by SGC. These projects (eight total) were started in <br />
