STUDY UPDATE:
Attached in the Appendix is the data collected through March 1996 for the seep, spring and flowing
adit inventory and monitoring as required by TR-14
During the report year no new monitoring sites were added and no sites were deleted. Sunnyside
visited all sites twice during the report year, collected field data and sampled each site for lab
parameter analysis if flow existed. This exceeded the permit requirement of collecting samples for
analysis from 20 percent of the sites during each monitoring year such that all sites had been sampled
during a 5 year period.
Data Analysis:
Seep, spring and flowing adit samples were taken in early summer, when the sites became accessible
and snow-melt would not bias the samples, and fall before snowfall was expected to shut off site
access. The sampling efforts were spread over approximately a month for each round. Mid-July was
an approximate mid-point of the early summer sampling round and late-September for the fall
sampling round. The rune pool elevation was approximately 10,850 feet MSL in mid-July and
11.060 feet MSL in late-September. Although it is believed by Sunnyside that the mine pool could
not have influenced 1996 sample results, these elevations have been included for reference as well as
a monitoring site coordinate table arranged by increasing elevation. There were 11 sites below the
mid-July pool elevation and 12 sites below the late-September pool elevation. No sites showed
monitoring parameter results that would indicate an impact from the rising mine pool.
Included in the Appendix is the monitoring program that Sunnyside is following and a table listing
the sample count, mean value, standard deviation, maximum value and minimum value for each
sample parameter at each monitoring site. Sunnyside will be using this table for comparison of future
samples to background quality.
B-9
