2.2 RECOMMENDATIONS
We belive that the mine plan is adequate to ensure a stable long-term pit wall.
Minor modifications to the pit geometry could enhance local stability and improve the
performance of the catchment benches. The following specific recommendations are
proposed.
• Geologic mapping of structural features should continue in order to define any
intermediate size wedge or plane instabilities before daylighting. An active
transfer of the geologic data and interpretation of the wedge geometry to the
pit engineers should be implemented on a routine basis.
• Aggressive scaling of the bench faces should continue to assure that loose
materials are removed.
• Bench face angles should be increased to 90' and bench widths increased to
around 18 feet.
• The talus slope at the top of the east wall should be cut back to reduce the face
angle to below 45°.
• Procedures for installing rockbolt support for local intermediate size blocks
should be developed.
• Controlled blasting procedures should be continued and improved.
3
