Mr. Frank Bergstrom -3- April 6, 1988
both agree that headwall retreat is expected to erode the currently
unaffected slops adjacent to the pits.
2. As part of the open-pit geotechnical analyses planned for the Summer of
1988, please evaluate the impacts the pit will have on the adjacent
unaffected slopes, i.e., extent of headcut, approximate time to achieve
erosion rates that are not significantly greater than those observed on
adjacent undisturbed slopes, methods and monitoring schedule to
determine when erosion rates similar to adjacent undisturbed land have
been achieved for final reclamation release, and measures proposed to
minimize disturbance to unaffected lands. Please commit to such. The
geotechnical analyses requirement will be brought to the Board 's
attention as a requirement you have agreed to as a condition of Amendment
approval .
Waste Rock Dump Grading
1 . The slope stability analysis provided for the waste-rock dump(s)
indicates relative slope stability of the rock piles themselves, but does
not address the foundation's ability to support the load placed upon it.
Please address.
Exhibit G - Water Information
Water Quality - Terry Tunnel
1 . Please provide a response concerning transporting Terry Tunnel sludge to
Tailing Pond No. 3 no later than May 2, 1988, such that we may resolve
this issue prior to the commencement of the 1988 field season.
The consideration of Amendment No. 3 is scheduled for the April 27-28, 1988,
Board Meeting. Please provide a response to this letter prior to April 22,
1988, such that any remaining issues may be resolved.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Camille M.
