October 1999 Monthly Report
Page 2
Sunnyside submitted completion certifications in October, 1997.
Included with this report are monitoring results from samples taken at the Gold Prince
and Longfellow/Koehler project sites in September.
• Sunnyside Mine Pool Mitigation—Alkaline Solution Injection
This project was not active in October of 1999 although 0.19 Mgallons were pumped
through the Terry Tunnel bulkhead to lower the water level in the Terry Tunnel settling
ponds in order to maintain a no discharge status. This was necessary due to inflows from
a continuous storm pattern throughout the summer months with little evaporation
occurring. Evaporation and infiltration are normally enough for pond level control.
The water pool pH, at the American Tunnel bulkhead, was 4.84 and the bulkhead gage
read 419 psi at the end of October. This would indicate that a rise in the mine pool
occurred since the end of September(9 feet). Sunnyside will continue to monitor these
parameters.
The Terry Tunnel bulkhead was inspected on October 20,1999. The pressure gage read
22 psi, which agrees with The American Tunnel gage (within the accuracy of the gages).
The pH of the water behind the Terry bulkhead was 11.95. This high result is most likely
the result of stirring up lime behind the bulkhead while pumping to maintain a no
discharge status from the Terry Tunnel settling ponds. During this inspection, the
bulkhead valve was closed in anticipation that additional pumping, to maintain a no
discharge status, would not be required for the remainder of 1999.
"B List" Projects
• Columbus Mine Portals— Mine Waste Dumps
• London Mine Portals—Waste Dumps
Work, permitting or arrangement for access is not planned until it becomes evident that
the work plans for these projects require implementation.
