this site, contributing 20.05, 13.28 and 10.27 percent, respectively, of the total relative cover on
this area.
When IME sampled this site in 2005 total plant cover was determined to equal 25.27 percent.
The locations of the 15 cover transects sampled on this site are shown on Map 3, Tipple
Reference Area - Vegetation Transect Location Map. The sample adequacy calculations in
Table 2, Kerr Mine Sample Adequacy Calculations, document that the number of vegetation
transects required to characterize the total plant cover on this site at the 90 percent statistical
confidence interval was 11.6 transects.
Production. The results obtained from the sampling of the 30 production transects on Tipple
Reference Area are presented in Table 11, Tipple Reference Area - Production. Total herbaceous
forage production on this location averaged 4.64 g/l /4m Perennial grasses averaged 3.26
g/1 /4m and contributed 70.26 percent of the total herbaceous forage and perennial forbs,
contributed an average of 1.38 g/1 /4m or 29.74 percent of the forage produced on this site. No
annuals or noxious weeds were encountered in the productions sampling of this site.
When IME sampled this site in 2005, they reported that total herbaceous forage production
averaged 3.78 g/1 /4m or 134.7 pounds of air -dry forage per acre. Perennial grasses contributed
2.90 g/1 /4m or 76.72 percent of the total forage production and perennial forbs contributed 0.01
g/1 /4m or 23.28 percent of the total forage production
The locations of the 30 production transects sampled on this area are shown on Map 3, Tipple
Reference Area - Vegetation Transect Location Map. Examination of Table 2, Kerr Mine
Sample Adequacy Calculations, reveals that sample adequacy at the 90 percent confidence
interval was equal to 11.6 transects.
Species Diversity. The forage quality index calculations for this site are found in Table 12,
Tipple Reference Area - Forage Quality Index Calculations. An exact copy of this table was
submitted by KCC in connection with TR -25. As are documented in these calculations, the
forage quality index value for the Tipple Reference Area at the Marr Mine as sampled in 2009 is
210.18.
TIPPLE RECLAMATION
Plant Cover. The results obtained from the sampling of the 20 plant cover transects on this site
are presented in Table 13, Tipple Reclamation - Plant Cover. Total plant cover on this site
averaged 32.85 percent and litter averaged 25.45 percent (Table 13, Tipple Reclamation - Plant
Cover).
Seeded cool season perennial grasses were the most dominant plant life form encountered in the
vegetation sampling of this site and contributed a total of 16.10 percent of the total cover and
49.02 percent of the total relative cover on this site. Seeded and invading shrubs and subshrubs
were the second most dominant plant life form on this site contributing 9.75 percent of the total
cover or 29.68 percent of the total relative cover on this reference area. Perennial forbs were the
10
