This water is expected
to carry excessive suspended solids which will be treated by the settling ponds shown on this drawing.
Following settling and passing through the artificial wetlands this water will be discharged via an approved
NPDES discharge point.
Designs shown are the initial construction. Slight modifications may occur during operation to better
improve efficiency of the structures while preserving the intent and general character of the designs.
Hydrologic modeling only used Ponds 3, 4, and the 'Last Chance' pond. The first two ponds were
considered operational for handling sediment removed from the mine with the water. Ponds 5 and 6
were added to add incorporate an additional factor of safety to allow time to respond to unforeseen
treatment needs.
Artificial wetland are expected to evolve over time. Initial construction was less than ideal and plans are
to modify this area to create additional shallow water retention areas. The intent is to create shallow
wetlands over approximately 50% of the area. The actual extent will be dictated, in part, by the rate
water is pumped from underground. Water will be distributed through a series of berms and sumps.
Best management practices will be used to control erosion prior to vegetation establishment.
The area is surrounded by an exclosure fence designed to keep livestock out. This is necessary to
prevent damage to the wetlands and diversion structures associated with this facility.
See Illustration 55 for detailed hydrologic modeling
C
11 =10'
CEI v ED
1202012
of Reclamation,
19 & Safety
C'
2O' 20
4
,' MIN 4' 2' d50 RIP RAP 1S' AT HIGHESN EW _ 4' 1 -3' RIP RAP
IN E118ANKMetr
SECTION A -A'
dw RIP RAP SECTION 8 -13'
C•
1 As -built
2 1 Revised As -built to add more detail
3 jAdded Dewatering Ponds 5 & 6
5608.00
560775
5607.50
5607.25
5607.00 —
5606 I5
o1oo
8/2012
2/2012
,ORNBN& GROUND -.
1
POND EMRANN
"'LINO GROUND
CNANNEL ROW
0 r30 0 +40
SECTION C -C'
0 +50
FlNRHED POND EMaA
--I
0 +60
0 +20 D +30 0,10 0 +50 0 +60
SECTION D -D'
C 19 l W s
BLUE MOUNTAIN ENERGY, INC.
DESERADO MINE RANGELY, COLORADO
Map 157 B -Seam Dewatering
D-g. by.
