Hickenlooper
Governor
Mike King
Executive Director
Loretta E. Pirdeda
Director
Thank you for your emailed correspondence dated August 23, 2012 regarding the intention of
Oakridge Energy, Inc. to proceed with reclamation of certain features noted during the
Division's July 30, 2012 inspection of the Carbon Junction Mine. We appreciate your
cooperation with the reclamation of the mine site and have a few comments regarding our July
visit.
Carbon Junction Mine Wells
The Division has conducted a review of the Carbon Junction Mine permit, in order to better
understand the history of holes that have been drilled for either exploration or water monitoring
purposes. Various wells constructed for the Carbon Junction Mine by Pueblo Coal, Inc. (PCI)
and Oakridge Energy, Inc. ( Oakridge) are shown on permit map 4 -3, Well and Spring Locations.
On this map, five wells are identified. From north to south, the wells are numbered as follows:
B17; B10 (a.k.a. 82 -5); 94 -1; PW1 (82 -4); and 95 -1 (a.k.a. 94 -2). The approximate location of
each of these wells is identified in the annotated Google Earth photos, attached to this letter.
Geology Map 4 -2 also shows the locations of various wells and boreholes. On this map, Wells
82 -5 and B 10 are identified separately, and page 4 -11 of the permit says that 82 -5 was destroyed
by mining. We therefore conclude that the "a.k.a. 82 -5" appearing for Well B10 on Map 4 -3 is
in error.
During our July inspection, we observed Well B 10, which you and Mr. Savage were previously
unaware of As indicated in your email, I believe this is the well you intend to seal. During the
July 30 inspection, you and Mr. Savage also guided Sandy Brown and me to the location of
Well 95 -1, and we visited Well PW1 (82 -4) at the top of the hill. As was discussed during the
inspection, Well 95 -1 and Well PW1 (82 -4) are located within the boundary of the Ewing Mesa
Pit No. 1, a construction materials permit which is also located on Oakridge property. During
the inspection, Oakridge felt that the reclamation of these wells is the responsibility of the
Office of Office of
Miner!
