permanent seed mix. Concentrated shrub seeding or planting areas will be exempted from this evaluation •
since the intent is to keep herbaceous competition at a minimum.
Weed and Pest Control. Weed and vegetation surveys conducted on the Yoast and other SCC
properties have revealed many weed species. The management of these species varies according to
level of infestation and sensitivity of surrounding vegetation. SCC uses an integrated approach to
weed control on property owned in Routt Couuty, Colorado. Mauagemeut includes prevention,
chemical, mechanical sod biological controls. Pursuant to the Colorado 1996 Noxious Weed Law aisd
additiona12003 regulations, (35-5.5401 through 119), SCC has prepared a comprehensive weed
management plan. See Appendix 13-14, Weed Management Plan, for a rnmplete copy of the plan.
Reorading or Stabilizing Rills and Gullies
Seeded areas will be monitored following spring snowmen and heavy rains. If monkodng indicates the
presence of excessive rills and gullies, closer observation will be used to determine the cause of the
gullying. These areas will be identfied on a map.
Natural geomorphic processes in the redaimed area will be emphasized, taking into account the slope,
aspect, and soil conditions of the site. Further consideration will be given to the normal climatic patterns and
rate of vegetation establishment and development in the subject area. Evaluation will indude whether the •
rills and gullies will prohibit successful revegetation or will disrupt the achievement of the postmining land
use.
Based on this evaluation, several options will be available to correct the situation. These options will be a
direct rosuh of studying the situation and selecting the option that will best rectify the erosional problem.
One or more of the following options and corrective methods will be employed.
Improved Channel. If it is determined that topography of the regraded area is such that drainage is
concentrated into a particular area, drainage control will be improved. The drainage bottom or channel will
be reshaped, if needed. This will be done with either a motor grader or dozer, making the channel in the
shape of a V that is approximately 16 feet to 20 feet wide. The channel bottom will either be seeded,
covered with erosion matting and seeded, or rocked. The method used will depend on site cenditions.
Continued observations will be made of this area for additional problems or necessary maintenance.
No Defined Channel. On a slope where there is no Swale or defined channel, a number of operations will be
performed, depending on the extent of the erosion. The area will be disked on the contour or erosion
matting will be placed on the area, depending again on site characteristics. Reseeding will then take place. •
In addition to the above, contour furrows in and above the erosion area may be constructed to intercept and
TR-37 1324 Revised 04/05
