L
For this eight-year period, the winter season (December-February)
precipitation average was 1.32 inches while the spring season (March-May)
average was 3.20 inches. Summer (June-August) and fall (September-November)
average precipitation were 2.53 and 2.21 inches, respectively.
Tables II.E-2 and Table II.E-3 present the joint frequency distribution and
relative joint frequency distribution of wind speed and direction from the
White River Shale Project (Ua and Ub oilshale tracts) located in Utah near
the town of Bonanza. Bonanza is the nearest station that records wind data
and is approximately 25 miles southwest of the mine. This data was
collected at ten meters by Aerovironment for the five-year period (1975
through 1979). The mean annual wind speed was 7.2 miles per hour (mph).
There is no available data on gusts, but 3 percent of the wind speed
occurrences are greater than 35 mph, mainly in the west-southwest (WSW) and
south-southeast (SSE) directions. Figure II.E-1 is the annual wind rose for
the White River Shale Project for 1978 at the 30-meter level. The
prevailing wind direction is SSE. The data from the 30-meter level is more
representative of the Rangely area than the 10-meter level. Influences on
the data due to terrain are less at 30 meters than at 10 meters. Currently,
no data is available from the on-site meteorological station due to problems
with a power supply. Collection of the meteorological data, reinitiated in
June 1980, will continue for 12 calendar months. This data will be
available upon request.
M • iF Ii iF
•
1r1
u
10-80 II.E-4
