Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
ATTN: Mr. Berham Keffelew
1313 Sherman St, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Mr. Keffelew,
Thank you for your repl to my letter of 21 June 2012 and for providing me the attached
"Minerals Program Inspection Report" concerning a dynamite blast on 5 Jun 2012 from
the Snyder Quarry (attached). L
Additionally we appreciate you and Mr. Kaldenbach driving down here to Colorado
Springs and conducting measurements of the Snyder Quarry dynamite blast on 5 June
2012. Although the blast's peak particle velocity was less than the permitted value, we
as homeowners are still having our houses shake (earthquake like event). In fact, if the
peak particle velocity permitted value were ever experienced, there would be major
damage to our entire neighborhood.
Therefore, I respectfully request the permitted value of the peak particle velocity be
changed to 0.05 inches /second in order to protect us as City of Colorado Springs
residents from blasts in the Snyder Quarry in El Paso County.
Attachment:
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety, Minerals Program Inspection
Report, 5 June 2012, Snyder Quarry.
Copies to:
Tom & Gay Hatcher
4450 Monitor Rock Lane
Colorado Springs, CO 80904
23 August 2012
Sincerely,
0-"' j\-\
4 Tom Hatcher
I C i17 /i67
RECEIVED
',1,10 2 7 2012
Division of ReC
Mining & Safety
