Box 247
Silverton, CO 81433
Dear Bill:
Attached are copies of evaluations made on test plots at Standard Metals
June 20, 1983.
Below is an outline of planned test work this fall and next spring as
discussed. We will seed a mixture of species that have shown the best
performance in past trials and plant them on a bare slope. The plot
will be seeded in the spring of 1984 on a new area to be seeded. Species
have been selected on performance, diversity, erosion control and maintenance.
Species will be hydroseeded and mulched with netting. The same procedure you
are presently using. Plot size is estimated 40 feet by 120 feet.
Species to be seeded June 1984:
1. Volga mammoth wildrye
2. Arriba western wheatgrass
3. Sodar streambank wheatgrass
4. EPC-99 Slender wheatgrass
5. EPC-328 Louisiana sagewort
6. Magnar basin wildrye
Woody species to be transplanted June 1984:
Shrubby cinquefoil
A second part of this study would be interseeding plants with potential for low
maintenance requirement and to add diversity into existing plots where vegetation
is presently established. These plots would be overseeded with a mixture this
fall (October 1983) .
Species to be overseeded October 1983:
1. Bandera Rocky Mountain penstemon
2. Appar Louis flax
3. Shoshone Beardless wildrye
4. Arriba Western wheatgrass
5. Sodar Streambank wheatgrass
6. EPC-328 Louisiana sagewort
(more)
O The Soil Conservation Service SCS-AS-t
lJis an agency of the 10-79
Department of Agriculture
