1. Ripping and grading
2. Soil conditioning
3. Topsoiling
4. Substrate stabilization
Reclamation plant materials testing and selection was
initiated in conjunction with site preparation procedure devel-
opment. The number of plant species possessing adequate revege-
tation potential for disturbed lands at the Silverton site is
extremely limited by intrinsic conditions of the local habitats,
and commercial availability. Some 60 accessions of introduced
and indigenous grasses, forbs, and shrubs were tested and evaluated
in the revegetation test plots. Plant materials were selected
for evaluation in reclamation test plots based on revegetation
potential . The plant species were then selected for use in the
reclamation program based on vigor and vitality ratings which re-
vealed the degree to which each species was adapted to the sum of
biologic and physical forces operating on respective sites.
Species which have displayed the best results in the test plots
over the last five years, possessing the highest revegetation
potential are listed below:
Excellent
(grasses) (forbs or shrubs)
Elymus triticoides Shoshone Artemisia ludiviciana EPC-328
Elymus giganteus Volga Potentilla fructicosa EPC-351
Poa compressa Reubens Salix sp.
Festuca ovina Duran Chrysothamus parryi
Bromus inermis
Agropyron smithii Arriba
Page 16
