Sincerely,
lir S EN EC ny
August 23, 2012
Ms. Susan Burgmaier
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RE: Seneca I1 -W Mine Permit No. C -82 -057
Minor Revision No. (MR -71), Pond 016 Slide Remediation Plan Update
Ms. Burgmaier,
Seneca Coal Company (SCC) is submitting this Minor Revision (MR -71) for approval to use "red rock"
to reduce erosion and enhance the stability through revegetation on the steep cut slope within the Pond
016 slide remediation area. SCC will spread smaller sized red rock (approximate D50 of 3 inch) with a
dozer by pushing the material part way up the slope. The thin layer of red rock will help with erosion
control and provide microsites for revegetation. The seed mixes used will be the approved Upland Seed
Mix and the Concentrated Shrub Mix. This technique has been used with some success in other places in
the West and is expected to work at Pond 016.
Enclosed are two (2) copies of an application for a minor revision to the Seneca II -W Mine Permit (C -82-
057). Should the Division have questions regarding the information, please contact at (970) 276 -5217.
Roy Karo
Reclamation Manager
attachment(s)
cc: Foster Kirby (OSMRE)
Jennifer Maiolo (BLM)
RECEIVED
AUG 272012
Division of Reclamation,
Mining & Safety
Seneca Coal Company • P.O.
