A number of designated noxious weeds listed as either on the Colorado Department of
Agriculture's List A or B have been identified as occurring in either the West End of Montrose
County or adjacent San Miguel County. Known List A species which occur in this area include:
Cypress Spurge (Euphorbia cyparissias), Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria), and Yellow
Starthistle (Centaurea solstitialis). During the vegetation surveys conducted on this site in 2009,
Purple Loosestrife was observed as occurring at several locations within the wetland areas of
Meehan Draw.
Known List B species which occur in this area include: Absinth Wormwood (Artemisia
absinthium), Black Henbane (Hyoscyamus niger), Canada Thistle (Cirsium arvense)* Chinese
Clematis (Clematis orientalis), Corn Chamomile ( Anthemis arvensis), Dalmatian Toadflax
(Linaria damlatica genistifolia), Diffuse Knapweed (Centaurea diffusa), Hoary Cress (Cardaria
draba) *, Houndstongue (Cynoglossum officinale) *, Leafy Spurge (Euphorbia esula), Mayweed
Chamomile (Anthemis cotula), Musk Thistle (Carduus nutans) *, Oxeye Daisy (Chrysanthemum
leucanthemum), Russian Knapweed (Acroptilon repens) *, Russian Olive (Elaeagnus
angustifolia) *, Salt Cedar (Tamarix chinensis, T. parviflora, T. ramosissima) *, Scentless
Chamomile (Matricaria perforata), Spotted Knapweed (Centaurea maculosa) *, Sulfur Cinquefoil
(Potentilla recta), and Yellow Toadflax (Linaria vulgaris). Of these 20 List B species, a total of
eight, were observed during the vegetation studies performed in 2009 on this site. These species
are marked in this list.
Therefore, if WFC encounters any of these List A or List B species growing on any reclaimed
areas on lands they own which could spread onto any reclaimed areas and potentially jeopardize
the successful establishment of the reseeded species, immediate control measures will be
implemented. The Colorado State University Extension Office, and /or the Montrose County or
San Miguel County Weed Supervisors will be immediately contacted and recommendations
obtained on the most effective way to treat any possible infestations. Their recommendations
regarding the herbicides and application rates recommended to control these plants will be
followed.
Section 2.05.4(2)(e) Page 37 January 2012
