Experience from 1995 to 2009 at the New Horizon 2 Mine has shown that the initial swell is
reduced over time with settling which results in a net change of 8% increase in volume.
Map 2.05.4 -1 shows the post- mining topography, which is nearly identical to the existing
topography. Cross - section locations are also shown on this map. Typical cross sections through
the mining areas are shown on Map 2.05.4 -2. These cross sections show original and post -
mining ground elevations.
Slides and Other Damage: WFC does not anticipate any problems with slides at NHN Mine
during the term of mining and reclamation activities.
Post - Mining Pond Retention: Three sediment ponds are currently contemplated for the NHN
Mine area. At the landowners' request, these ponds will be retained as stock ponds.
Post - Mining Drainage Channels: Three primary drainage channels pass through the NHN
Mine area. Glasier Draw, Meehan Draw and Nygren Draw (See Map 2.04.7 -1). No mining will
occur in these drainage channels. However, perimeter haul roads will cross Meehan Draw as
shown on Map 2.05.2 -1. The disturbance to this wetland area will be mitigated as described in
WFC's Army Corps of Engineers 404 permit. A copy of this permit will be submitted to DRMS
upon approval by the Corps of Engineers.
Section 2.05.4(2)(c) Page 4 November 2011
