■
Colorado desert - parsley. This species is reported to occur on "adobe hills and plains on rocky
soils derived from Mancos Formation shale. Associated with shrub communities dominated by
sagebrush, shadscale, greasewood, or shrub oak. Elev. 5500 -7000 ft." According to the
distribution maps, this species only occurs in Montrose County in the extreme eastern portion,
next to Gunnison County. Given the complete absence of "adobe hills and plains on rocky soils
derived from Mancos Formation shale. Associated with shrub communities dominated by
sagebrush, shadscale, greasewood, or shrub oak," in the proposed NHN Mine permit area, it is
extremely unlikely, if not impossible for this plant to occur on this site.
Payson lupine. This species occurs on "pinyon juniper woodlands, or clay barrens derived from
Chinle or Mancos Formation Shales. Draws and washes with sparse vegetation. Elev. 5000 -5800
ft." According to the distribution maps, this species occurs in Montrose County approximately
10 miles to the west and south of the proposed project area. Given the absence of "pinyon -
juniper woodlands or clay barrens derived from Chinle or Mancos Formation Shales. Draws and
washes with sparse vegetation," in the proposed NHN Mine permit area, it is extremely unlikely,
if not impossible for this plant to occur on this site.
Eastwood monkey - flower. This species occupies habitats consisting of "shallow caves and seeps
on steep canyon walls. Elev. 4700 -5800 ft." According to the distribution maps, this species
occurs in Montrose County in the extreme western portion of the county next to the Utah -
Colorado state line, approximately 40 miles to the west of the proposed project site. Given the
total absence of "shallow caves and seeps on steep canyon walls," in the proposed NHN Mine
permit area, it is impossible for this plant to occur on this site.
Little penstemon. This species is reported to occupy habitats consisting of "sagebrush, pinyon -
juniper, and desert grassland communities on sandstone and shale, in clayey loam soils. Elev.
4900 -6700 ft." According to the distribution maps, the closest occurrence of this species to the
proposed project site is approximately 15 miles to the south. Given the complete absence of
"sagebrush, pinyon juniper, and desert grassland communities on sandstone and shale, in clayey
loam soils," in the proposed NHN Mine permit area, it is highly unlikely that this plant would
occur on this site.
Adode beardton,ue. This species occurs on habitats consisting of "barren gray adobe hills of
Mancos Formation shale where there is a relatively high amount of moisture (in drainage areas
or on the north sides of hills). Clayey, alkaline soils; associated with saltbush and/or sagebrush.
Elev. 5100 -6500 ft." According to the distribution maps, the closest occurrence of this species to
the proposed project site is in the Uncompahgre Valley in the eastern portion of Montrose
County. Given the absence of "barren gray adobe hills of Mancos Formation shale where there
is a relatively high amount of moisture (in drainage areas or on the north sides of hills). Clayey,
alkaline soils; associated with saltbush," in the proposed NHN Mine permit area, it is highly
unlikely that this plant would occur on this site.
Section 2.04.10 Page 28 November 2011
