completed to an order II survey intensity. A copy of this soils mapping is presented on
Map 2.04.9 -1 - NRCS Soils Map.
According to this soils mapping, there are seven NRCS soils mapping units located
within the proposed New Horizon North Mine permit area. This includes soils mapping
units 10 - Aquolls, 0 to 3 percent slopes; 71 - Nyswonger silty clay loam, 1 to 4 percent
slopes; 77 - Pinon - Progresso Loams, 3 to 12 percent slopes; 78 - Pinon - Ustic
Torriorthents Complex, 5 to 30 percent slopes; 81 - Progresso Loams, 3 to 6 percent
slopes; 82 - Progresso Loams, 6 to 12 percent slopes; and 88 - Rock Outcrop - Orthents
Complex, 40 to 90 percent slopes. The NRCS soils mapping is in error in their map
shows no mine reclamation with the boundaries of what is now the Rice Tract.
Therefore, we have modified their mapping to show the limits of this -65.55 acre and have
also further delineated the extent of reclaimed spoil lacking topsoil (4.09 acres) which
largely corresponds to the proposed equipment corridor as well as another small area of
reclaimed spoil topsoil with approximately 4 inches of subsoil (0.38 acres). An acreage
summary of each of these soils mapping units is found on Map 2.04.9 -1 - NRCS Soils
Map.
NRCS SOILS MAPPING UNIT DESCRIPTIONS
The typical soils mapping unit descriptions for these soils mapping units as taken from
the NRCS soil survey are as follows:
10 - Aquolls, 0 to 3 percent slopes
Map Unit Setting
Major Land Resource Area: 35
Elevation: 5,500 to 6,800 feet (1,676 to 2,073 meters)
Mean annual precipitation: 10 to 16 inches (254 to 406 millimeters)
Average annual air temperature: 47 to 49 degrees F (8 to 10 degrees C)
Frost free period: 90 to 130 days
Aquolls and similar soils: 95 percent
Minor components: 5 percent
Aquolls soils
Landform: Slough, flood plain
Parent material: Alluvium from mixed sources
Slope: 0 to 3 percent
Drainage Class: Very poorly drained
Slowest permeability: Moderately slow
Map Unit Composition
Component Descriptions
Section 2.04.9 Page 3 November 2011
