TAILINGS POND NUMBER TWO RECLAMATION PLAN The ultimate goal of the reclamation plan for Tailings Pond 42 is to establish a self sustaining vegetative cover on the pond. The plan incorporates five steps to achieve this. I . Resloping Sides of Pond: The side slopes of the pond will be brought to a slope of approximately 2 . 5 : 1 . This will be accomplished either by cutting or filling various sections of the pond slopes depending on their current configuration. II . Regrading Top of The Pond: The top of the pond will be sloped towards the hillside at approximately a 20 grade. This will be accomplished with tailings excavated from the sides of the pond during resloping. III . Overburden Covering: The entire pond area will be covered with approximately one foot of overburden. The overburden will be placed in such a fashion so as to minimize compaction and create a satisfactory seedbed. The overburden will be borrowed from the designated area northeast of Tailings Pond #4. IV. Seeding and Planting: The reclaimed area (approximately 18 acres) will be fertilized and seeded during the summer of 1992. It is preferable to seed in late June or early July to take advantage of the above average precipitation during this period. The seed mixture will be the "Mountain Mix" specified in Table E-4 of the Consolidated Permit Application. The seed mixture will be applied at 20lb/acre (minimum) . Prior to seeding the overburden will be analyzed to determine the type and application rate of fertilizer to be applied. In some cases other soil amendments such as limestone may also be applied to the overburden. The proposed borrow material is expected to be similar to that used to cover Pond #4 . The fertilizer recommended for Pond #4 was 200#N,40# P205 , and 60#K20 per acre (The nitrogen will be added over a 2 year period to prevent burning the seeds) . Approximately 0. 9 tons of limestone per acre were applied on Pond #4 for PH control. -1-
