TAILINGS POND #2 RECLAMATION <br /> BONDING REQUIREMENTS <br /> Reclamation of Tailings Pond #2 is currently bonded for <br /> $71 ,620 .00 . This figure is derived from exhibit L <br /> (Reclamation Costs) of the consolidated permit application. <br /> The proposed plan is substantially different from the bonded <br /> plan with the exception of the seeding and monitoring items. <br /> The proposed plan has all work except seeding and monitoring <br /> being completed in 1991 and, as such, suggests a reduction <br /> in reclamation liability of $51 , 380 .00 ($71 ,600 - $17 ,000 - <br /> $3,220) . <br /> Successful reclamation of Pond #2 will require an overburden <br /> borrow source. The proposed Borrow Area and Haul Road will <br /> require disturbance of 5. 54 acres of previously undisturbed <br /> land. The Borrow Area and Haul Road are located completely <br /> within the current permit area. Exhibit L lists the <br /> following reclamation costs for disposal and borrow areas <br /> near the Animas River. <br /> Cover and Grade Site: NA* <br /> Fine Grading, Seedbed Prep: $ 150 /Acre <br /> Seed, Mulch, Fertilizer: $ 800 /Acre <br /> Monitoring and Maintenance: $ 328 /Acre <br /> $1 ,278/Acre <br /> * This item is intended for disposal sites only. <br /> This exhibit suggests that the bonding requirement for the <br /> borrow area is 5. 54 acres X $1 , 278/Acre = $7,080 .00 . <br /> Given the net reduction of $44,300 ($51,380 - $7,080) in <br /> reclamation liability it is the opinion of SJCMV that no <br /> additional bonding monies should be required for the <br /> proposed reclamation plan. <br /> -7- <br />
