Letter to Sunnyside Gold -Page 2- April 26, 1993
where Dm is the diameter such that the aggregate weight of all
grains with a diameter less than Dm is m percent of the total
weight.
If this criterion is not met by the aggregate and the back-fill, a
sand or gravel filter that does meet the above criteria must be
installed.
4. Ditch side slopes, unless blasted from bedrock, must be
stabilized with vegetation or riprap. If riprap is used, details
regarding its placement should be submitted with the as-builts.
Such details would include information on rock durability, rock
gradation, riprap thickness, and filter design.
5. By intercepting and discharging groundwater, Sunnyside Gold may
be creating a point source as defined by federal and state clean
water statutes. Depending on the quality of the water to be
discharged, special handling may be necessary. Please contact the
Water Quality Control Division (WQCD) to determine if an NPDES
permit will be required for the proposed discharge, and copy the
Division on any correspondence with WQCD regarding this matter.
6. In general, whenever groundwater is exposed to the atmosphere
in the State of Colorado, a well permit is required in order to
account for evaporative losses. Please contact the Office of the
State Engineer to determine if a well permit is required for this
proposed operation.
If you are unable to prepare your responses prior to the May 5,
1993 decision date for this revision, you must submit a written
request for deadline extension. If you have any questions, please
contact me.
Sincerely,
.,
Allen C. Sorenson
Reclamation Specialist
ACS/acs
