Sorenson:
The following addresses the list of concerns, stated by the
Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG) (April 26 , 1993 letter) , for
technical revision TR-15.
1. All topsoil or other suitable growth media encountered in
ditch excavation will be stockpiled for reclamation use. The
area envisioned for ditch location is in areas of previous
disturbance so little if any topsoil is anticipated to be
recoverable.
2. As-bu i lts and hydrological analysis will be provided to the
DMG after completion of the project. The purpose of any
ditches will not be to intercept surface runoff but to bring
groundwater to surface. Therefore, the ditches ( if ditches
are left as permanent structures) may or may not be capable of
carrying the probable maximum precipitation event. If not,
appropriate overflow sites will be provided to minimize
erosion and allow excess flow capacity to escape and continue
overland to the former Lake Emma overflow as it does now and
will under the current reclamation plan.
3 . Sunnyside Gold Corporation (SGC) proposed the use of filter
cloth as an economic alternative to graded filter media (sand
or gravel) for protection of the aggregate-pipe interceptor
from fine particle infiltration. After reviewing Item 3 . in
the list of concerns , Phillips Fibers Corporation was
contacted concerning the proposed usage and any information
they had on an expected service life of their non-woven
polypropylene geotextile products. Attached is a copy of
their answer and product brochure.
