Box 177 <br /> Silverton, Colorado 81433 <br /> Re: Sunnyside Gold Corporation's "Sunnyside Mine", File No. M-77-378, <br /> San Juan County <br /> Dear Mr. Peri no: <br /> v <br /> On July 29, 1988 we visited your mine and found waste rock disposal operation <br /> occurring at the Lake Emma Open pit site. Condition No. 3 of Amendment No.-3 <br /> approval states that: <br /> "Sunnyside Gold Corporation has committed to conduct acid-base analyses <br /> of waste-rock core samples collected from the proposed Washington and <br /> Sunnyside open-pit locations. Results from the acid-base analyses of <br /> the composite waste-rock core samples shall be evaluated to determine <br /> the waste-rock pile' s acid or toxic forming potential and demonstrate <br /> that this material will comply with the following performance standards: <br /> a) C.R.S. 34-32-116(1 )(d) <br /> Acid-forming or toxic-producing material that has been mined shall <br /> be handled in a manner that will protect the drainage system from <br /> pollution; <br /> b) C.R.S. 34-32-116(1 )(g) <br /> . . . (stockpiled topsoil) remains free of any contamination by <br /> other acid or toxic material . . . ; and, <br /> c) C.R.S. 34-32-116(1 )(h) <br /> Disturbances of the prevailing hydrologic balance of the affected <br /> land and of the surrounding area and to the auality and quantity of <br /> water in surface and ground water systems both during and after the <br /> mining operation and during reclamation shall be minimized. <br /> 215 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.(303) 866-3567 <br />
