PUBLIC NOTICE
New Elk Coal Company, LLC, 12250 State Hwy 12, Weston, CO 81091 the operator of the
Golden Eagle Mine, Permit number C- 1981 -013, is filing for a technical revision (TR -57) to the
mining permit with the State of Colorado, Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety. For
filing purposes, this application was deemed complete by the Division on MONTH DAY,
YEAR.
The Golden Eagle Mine is located approximately 5 miles west of Weston Colorado. The permit
boundary is north of State Hwy. 12 along County Road 23.3. The mine permit boundary is
located within the SW /4NE /4 Section 19, T33S, R67W. This area can be located on the USGS
7.5 minute Vigil quadrangle map. A total of 1.2 acres of surface disturbance from mining
related activity is covered by a reclamation bond in the amount of $72,099.00.
This technical revision addresses technical issues raised by the Division of Reclamation, Mining
and Safety during its midterm review process. The identification of interests section of the
permit was updated. Minor changes were made to the vegetation monitoring plans. Text was
added to the permit to document that the New Elk Mine assumed responsibility for some bedrock
monitoring wells. An incidental permit boundary adjustment was made since the 2008 permit
boundary encroached on areas where NECC no longer has right on entry.
A copy of the proposed revision is available for public inspection at the Las Animas County
courthouse, Office of the County Recorder, and at the offices of the Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety, 1313 Sherman St., Room 215, Denver, CO, 80203, (303) 866 -3567.
