Commodity: Copper, lead, zinc, gold, silver <br /> Location: Silverton San Juan County <br /> Nature and Duration of Violation <br /> 1)Inadequate disposal of mine & mill refuse and trash (CRS 34-32-116( 1) (e) & (h) ) <br /> 2)Drainage control and maintenance of diversions/berms is inadequate at the minesites, <br /> trash areas, tailings disposal areas and sludge disposal areas. (34-32-116( 1)(h) ) <br /> 3)Collapse of Lake Emma, approx. 8 acres, as a result of undermining has created off-site <br /> damage and has caused degradation of water quality as a result of surface water draining <br /> through the mine. (CRS 34-32-116(1) (h) & (i ) ) <br /> Environmental Damage ( I,M,S)* 4)Inadequate disposal of mine water treatment sludge, <br /> potentially acid forming and toxic producing material <br /> Severe along the banks of the Animas River in an unpermittec <br /> location. (CRS 34-32-116 (h) and 124 (7) <br /> Duration: Since observed on July,10, 1985 <br /> Safety Hazards ( I ,M,S)* <br /> Insignificant <br /> Willfullness (Negligent - Willful ) <br /> Negligent- inthat sludge disposal site is poor location poorly engineered, undermining lake <br /> Cooperation ( Initiation of Appropriate Corrective Action) Willful-inthat sludge location <br /> site <br /> Standard Staff has been very cooperative in the field and meetings. �sAuTechnicaldRevision <br /> Other sites and Previous Compliance Problems has been submitted and some minor work on <br /> the ground has commenced. <br /> NA <br /> Staff Recommendation NOV - Find as recommended <br /> C&D fora ,iactivities until TR approved (Sunshine #16) and stipulations to TR are complied <br /> with and documentation submitted to the Division <br /> Corr.
