parameters for these materials. However, the properties of these soils are suspect and may warrant additional
investigation. Soil parameters used in the analysis are shown in the attached table.
After performing several scenarios at each cross section we have a few recommendations. If the pit is mined in a way
that produces a vertical high wall the limits of mining should be offset 30 feet from the existing toe of slope (assuming
the existing slope is 311:1V or less). Offsets less than this result in a factor of safety less than 1.20. The slurry wall
should be located a distance of 20 ft from the edge of the working platform and the final inside edge of the crest. This
configuration results in factors of safety greater than 1.2. If additional mining is performed at a 311: 1V slope or less
the mining could continue at a 311:1 V slope beginning at the existing toe. At no time during the mining should the
slope exceed 311: 1 V or should a high wall exist. If additional mining progresses in such a manner the slurry wall
should be located 20 ft from the edge of the working platform and the final inside edge of the crest. The results of this
analysis are summarized in the attached table. Figures showing the recommended cross sections are attached as well. If
at any point any of the assumptions made for this analysis are violated or found to be incorrect the results contained
herein are void.
1499 West 120 Avenue, Suite 200 • Denver, Colorado 80234 -2728 • (303) 452 -6611 • Fax: (303) 452 -2759
5441 Boeing Drive, Suite 200 • Loveland, Colorado 80538 -8855 • (970) 461 -9884 • Fax: (970) 613 -1177
