August 7, 2012 C-2009-087/Peabody Sage Creek Mine JDM

Pond 004 Repair Work
Pond 003 was holding water with a trickle discharge at the time of the inspection. The primary and emergency
spillways were stable with no problems noted. The embankments showed evidence of recent work with animal
burrow filling. No problems were noted during the inspection, with the exception of the following:
- The heavy houndstounge growth observed throughout the embankment, emergency spillway, and along the
outlet ditch to the flume during the July 2012 inspection has been addressed.
- The discharge from the pond was not flowing through the flume during the July 2012 inspection. This flume is
not a part of the design of the pond and PSCM personnel indicated that the flume will be removed.

The lower sump was holding water and discharging at the time of the inspection. The embankments were stable
with little to no vegetation established. The lower sump has recently been redesigned with the approval of TR4.
The redesign work was ongoing at the time of the inspection. No problems were noted with the exception of the
following:
- The leak of the riser upgrade has been repaired.

Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 1
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1

36
Page of
