The Division has the following comments:
2011 Annual Hydrology Report
1. Baseline data was not included with alluvial monitoring well reports for wells AW -2, AW -15 and AW -16.
These wells are located in the area of other monitoring wells which either have baseline data or are labeled
as being affected by the mining operation before well establishment and therefore monitoring events are
considered operational. Please clarify why the above listed wells do not have baseline data included with
their respective report.
2. August water samples were not taken for the Deer Trial Ditch (upper and lower) and the North Fork of the
Gunnison River (upper and lower). A footnote on each of the four reports states the reason as: the field
monitoring contractor forgot to take the sample for Surface List #2 Analysis. For consistency of long term
monitoring data, please ensure that all monitoring happens at the designated time and that all required
parameters are measured.
2011 Annual Mine Inflow Report
This mine inflow report is complete and the Division has no questions. BRL reported that there were no significant
mine water inflows in the 1 West Mains or longwall panels B -10 or B -11 during 2011.
The total consumptive water use at the mine increased froml38.3 AC -FT of water in 2010 to 208.9 AC -Ft in 2011.
This increase in the consumptive water use at the Bowie No. 2 Mine is still below the predicted value of 326.7 AC-
FT that is stated in the permit application.
2011 Bi- Annual Subsidence Reports
The Division does not have comments at this time.
If you have any questions, please contact me at (303) 866 -3567 ext. 8142.
Sincerely,
A
EPS Name
Environmental Protection Specialist
cc: J.
